Higdon Herrington officiating. Burial will follow in Doty Springs Cemetery in Kosciusko, Mississippi with Rev. Terry Edwards officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Ray Funeral Home.&lt;br /&gt;Mrs. Vanlandingham was born on March 12, 1920 in Kosciusko, MS to George Porter Hodge and Mary Lillian Ray Hodge. She married Charlie Jackson Vanlandingham. She was employed at Baxter Laboratories until her retirement.&lt;br /&gt;She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Jackson Vanlandingham; and two grandchildren, Greg Savage and Chase Vanlandingham; and one great grandchild, Adam West Savage.&lt;br /&gt;Survivors include her son, Lenwood C. Vanlandingham of Hamilton; a daughter, Maxine V. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Luke Methodist Church with Rev. Dixie Holder-Cummings officiating. Burial will follow at New Cleveland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-2 p.m Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Luke Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. &lt;br /&gt;Mr. Hackney was born April 30, 1929 in Springfield, TN, to B.W. and Stella Pierce Hackney. He married Marjorie Goodyear Hackney in August 1950. They were married for 59 years. He served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from University of Tennessee Pharmacy School in 1956 and served as a registered pharmacist for 54 years. They moved to Cleveland in 1962, and he was employed by Simmons Drugs, Economy Drugs and Paul’s Discount before retiring. After retirement, he worked at Gilbow’s Drug Store and Buckley’s Pharmacy. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.&lt;br /&gt;He is preceded in death by parents, B.W. and Stella Pierce Hackney; and brother, Wallace Ray Hackney.&lt;br /&gt;Survivors include his wife, Majorie Goodyear Hackney of Cleveland, MS; daughter, Beth Heinz (Charlie) of Shelby, MS; Sons, Michael Hackney (Elizabeth) of Cleveland, MS and William Hackney (Julia) of Cypress, TX; brother, Bobby B. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 also at Ray Funeral Home.&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Smith was born September 27, 1929 to Bob and Veda Smith in Runnels County, Tx and was reared in Texas as well. He married Mrs. Peggy Ray on February 2, 1952. They were married for 57 years. He served in the United States Army in Germany. He was an electrical engineer and traveled extensively with his job and made friends throughout the world. He was loved dearly by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whittington, 92, of Cleveland</title><content type='html'>James E. Whittington 92, lovingly know as Mr. Whit, passed away Saturday, April 24 at St. Catherine's Village Nursing Home in Madison, MS. Mr. Whit was born August 3, 1917 in Leake County, MS near Carthage. He left Carthage in 1938 to attend Mortuary College in St. Louis specializing in plastic surgery. He served his apprenticeship in Hattiesburg, MS. In 1940, while working at Dickens Funeral Home in Batesville, MS. he met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dot) Brasell Whittington. She preceded him in death in January of 2000. &lt;br /&gt;Mr. Whit served in World War II combat as Staff Sergeant with the Americal Artillery Division of the Army from March 1941 - 1945. He would later manage Fletcher Funeral Home in Cleveland from 1948 until he retired in 1978. He and Dot owned and operated Whit's Flowers for 10 years. They were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland until they moved to St. Catherine's Village in Madison, MS in 1996 where they were members of First Presbyterian Church of Madison. &lt;br /&gt;Mr. Whit is survived by a daughter, Annelle Whittington Rose and her husband Jim of Olive Branch, MS, a son Al Whittington of Atlanta, GA, two grandchildren, Billy Rose of Meridian, MS, Laurie Rose Lorio of Charlotte, NC and 4 great granddaughters. &lt;br /&gt;Visitation will be held Tuesday night from 6 - 8 at Ray funeral home and Wednesday from 10 - 11at First Presbyterian Church of Cleveland with the funeral service following at 11. She was born on December 25, 1926 to Roy and Emma Mae (Braden) Westbrook in Duncan, MS. Mrs. Howell grew up in Shelby, MS, graduated Shelby High School and attended Delta State College. She married John F. "Sonny" Howell in 1948 and together they lived in Baton Rogue, LA, Tampa FL, Galveston, TX, Gainesville, FL, Sherman, TX and Jackson, MS. After her retirement from the US Forest Service she moved to Oxford, MS to be near her daughter. Mrs. Howell was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother; Richard A. Westbrook, sister; Ida L "Snookie" Agner and her companion dog Dixie who gave her joy and inspiration for the past 10 years. &lt;strong style="font-weight: normal;"&gt;Visitation will be held Saturday April 17, 2010 from 12:00 PM ~1:30 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland. He graduated from the University of Mississippi in 1969. He was a member of the Chi Epsilon-National Civil Engineering Society, member of Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa and Tau Beta Pi-National Engineering Society. From 1995-2001, he was a Board Member of the Sunflower County Economic Development District, where he also served as Vice Chairman on a rotation basis, from 1996-2002, he was a Trustee of the North Sunflower County Hospital and Walter B. Crook Nursing Facility, serving as Vice Chairman, and from 1994-present, he was Finance Chairman of the Administrative Board of Drew United Methodist Church.&lt;br /&gt;He is survived by his brother, Thomas G. Visitation will be from 1 - 2 p.m. Thursday at the church. &lt;br /&gt;Mr. Simpson was born on November 2, 1923, in Shaw to Adonis “A” Simpson and Ruby Bell Simpson. He married Mary Elizabeth “Bette” Small on June 12, 1949, in Laurel, MS. He was a farmer and also worked for the USDA as a Federal Grain Inspector. &lt;br /&gt;He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. &amp;amp; Mrs. A. Simpson; brother, Guy Simpson (Jackie); and two sisters, Helen Bennett (P.M.) and Mary Laura Thomas (Billy). &lt;br /&gt;Survivors include his wife, Bette Simpson of Shaw; and two daughters, Grady Simpson Robinson of Shaw and Susan Simpson Steen of Cleveland. &lt;br /&gt;Jimmy had a soft spot in his heart for children and animals, especially those in need. H. and Cammie (Blackwell) Weeks in Boyle, MS. Eloise graduated from Boyle High School in 1954. She married Eugene Tharp on July 15, 1956 in Boyle Baptist Church Boyle, MS. Mrs. Tharp was a retired sales representative for Sears. She had worked in the Cleveland store for 42 years until her retirement. Mrs. Tharp was a reputable business woman who along-side her husband owned Gene's Vinyl Siding and The Cleveland Flower &amp;amp; Commissary. She was an active member of First Baptist Church Boyle, MS. Eloise will always be remembered for her kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need. Her family says she was a wonderful loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and a friend to all who knew her. Visitation will be held Thursday April 8, 2010 from 5:00 PM to 08:00 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland. She loved to play bridge and was active in the community as a member of the Drew Garden Club, Drew Culture Club, and Young at Heart Dance Club of Greenwood. She was a member of the Drew United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Drew Country Club. &lt;br /&gt;Miriam is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert (Bobby) W Atkinson in 1998, and a sister, Isabel Spiva Monk of Belzoni, MS, in 2008. &lt;br /&gt;She is survived by two sons, Robed W. She was born on July 15, 1922. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, a wonderful homemaker and a member of Calvery Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, craftmaking, cooking and loved her dog, Brutus Bodinkle.
