Dolly Parton has upset some fans with her decision to drop the name "Dixie" from her Dixie Stampede show, which currently plays in Pigeon Forge, TN and Branson, MO. People.com reports the reason for the change is to "avoid negative connotations with the antebellum South."

Dolly issued a statement through World Choice Investments, LLC, the attraction’s parent company, saying, “Our shows currently are identified by where they are located. Some examples are Smoky Mountain Adventures or Dixie Stampede. We also recognize that attitudes change and feel that by streamlining the names of our shows, it will remove any confusion or concerns about our shows and will help our efforts to expand into new cities.”

The change to Dolly Parton’s Stampede has already been made to the show’s official website and the sign on the Knoxville location.
