Sam Hunt said he was working on new music in 2016 and now he's sharing the fruits of his labor. He gave fans a New Year's Day surprise when he released a new song called "Drinkin' Too Much" just minutes into 2017. Sam Instagrammed a clip of the music writing, "Redemption. New music – Drinkin' Too Much"
The song is an apology to his old girlfriend, Hannah Lee Fowler, with whom he has since reunited. The personal lyrics include, “I’m sorry I named the album Montevallo / I’m sorry people know your name now and strangers hit you up on social media / I’m sorry you can’t listen to the radio . . . I know you want your privacy / You’ve got nothing to say to me / But I wish you’d let me pay off your student loans with these songs you gave to me.”
Towards the end, Sam sings, "You changed your number and moved and this is the only way I can reach you/ Hannah Lee, I'm on my way to you."
Hannah was the influence for many of the songs on Sam's 2014
Montevallo album which produced four consecutive Number One hits.
Taste of Country reports that Sam and Hannah are engaged. There are no details on when the event happened, but they cite sources close to Sam.
“Drinkin’ Too Much” is the first new music from Sam's upcoming sophomore album slated for release this year.
