Mr. Herman Doyle Bailey, 86, passed away Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at his home in Merigold. Funeral services will be Friday, July 30, 2010 at Shelby United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Bill Pennington officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, July 29, 2010 from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Ray Funeral Home. Burial will follow funeral service in Shelby Cemetery.
Mr. Bailey was born December 5, 1923 to John Thomas Bailey and Mamie Heard in Merigold, MS. He married Norma Jean Sudduth on July 15, 2001.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Thomas Bailey and Mamie Heard Bailey.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Bailey of Merigold; sons, Thomas Bailey of Quimby, SC, Donald Bailey of Plano, TX, and Charles Bailey of Hattiesburg, MS; daughter, Margaret Kallay of Centreville, MD; sisters, Elsie Carroll of Cleveland, MS, and Eleanor Herren of Lilburn, GA; seven grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren.

Mrs. Alyce West Richardson, passed away Friday, July 23, 2010. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 on Monday, July 26, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sid Harmon officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 5- 7 at Ray Funeral Home. Burial will follow funeral in North Cleveland Cemetery.
Mrs. Richardson was born on August 2, 1930 to Cordelia McNeese West and John Parker West. She married Clarence James “Rich” Richardson, Jr. on October 16, 1950. She was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Cleveland, where she sang in the choir, served on the Finance Committee, and Marguerite Bolling Circle. Mrs. Richardson was the first female president of Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce, the co- owner of West Implement Co. until it was sold in 1983, and served on the Board of Directors for Valley Bank (now The State Bank and Trust).
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cordelia McNeese West and John Parker West; daughter, Paker Alyce Richardson; and brother, Arthur Clayton West.
Mrs. Richardson is survived by her son, Clarence James “Jimbo” Richardson, III (Yamina) of Jackson, MS; daughters, Lucy Janoush (Paul) of Cleveland, MS and Lee McKinley (Randall) of Monroe, GA; grandchildren, Will Janoush (Andrea), Mary Parker Janoush, Nick McKinley, and Rich McKinley.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Paul Warrington, Dr. David Walt, Tom Janoush, Allan Savoie, Robert Heslep, Josh Warrington, Johnny West, Ed Kossman, Jr., and David Work.

Mr. James “Jim” August Westerfield, Jr., 63, passed away Wednesday, July 21 2010 at the Med in Memphis. Funeral service will be Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Merigold Methodist Church in Merigold. Visitaion will be from 10:00 -11:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow the funeral in Merigold Cemetery.
Mr. Westerfield was born September 14, 1946 to Dr. James August Westerfield, Sr. and Shirley May Wynne.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley Wynne Westerfield of Merigold, MS; brother, Andrew M. Westerfield (Kim) of Merigold, MS; nephews, Jack Westerfield of Merigold and Jon Westerfield of Merigold; grand- niece, Ella Grace Caeser Westerfield of Merigold; and an aunt, Nell Wynn of Merigold.

Leanora Elizabeth McClain, age 64, of Boyle, died on Monday July 19, 2010. She was born on March 11, 1946 to Earnest and Velma Mae (Tidwell) Vanhorn, Sr. in Cordova Alabama. Mrs. McClain moved to Mississippi Delta as a teenager where she met and married the late Carlton Junior McClain on June 2, 1962 in Cleveland. She was formerly employed by Ludlow’s Textile Mill in Indianola for ten years. She was a loving sister, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters; Mary Lou Vanhorn and Betty Keeton and a brother Earnest Eugene Vanhorn, Jr.
Visitation will be held from Friday July 23, 12:00 noon until funeral service at 2:00PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland. Burial will follow at the North Cleveland Cemetery. The Rev. Frank Caswell will officiate the service. She is survived by, two sons Carl (Margaret) McClain of Boyle, MS and Rodger (Karen) McClain of Boyle, MS. Two Brothers; Phillip Vanhorn of Greenville and Joe Vanhorn of Leland. Sister; Rachel Dycus of Tallulah, LA. 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Albert Belenchia, 84, formerly of Shelby, passed away at the Mississippi State Veterans’ Home in Collins Saturday, July 17, 2010. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday July 21, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelby, MS. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. and will end at time of service. Father Charles Bucciantini of St. James Catholic Church in Leland and Father Sean Atkinson of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland will conduct the funeral mass.
Mr. Belenchia was born in Shelby on May 7, 1926, to Marshall Belenchia and Emelia Tarsi Belenchia. He attended Shelby Schools before volunteering for service to his country as a proud member of the United States Navy during WWII. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Shelby and several years later married Rose Nan Foti on January 18, 1956. He attended Hinds Junior College before being employed at AMCO in Rosedale, MS. In 1964, he became the owner of Al’s Electrical Works and served many customers for over 44 years. Albert was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He was also a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, and Shelby County Country Club. He had a great love and passion for his hometown of Shelby, MS. He loved the people of Shelby and dedicated many years of public service to Shelby as a City Alderman.
Another passion in his life was playing golf with his lifelong friends: Snow Campanova, Max Bramuchi, Joe Jo Campanova, Moe Morganti and Johnny Ferretti. He also enjoyed playing golf with his many other friends who were members of The Delta Seniors Golf Association.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents Marshall and Emelia Belenchia, Brothers Alex Belenchia, Paul Belenchia, Charlie Belenchia, Marshall Belenchia, Jr. and a sister Laura Radicioni.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rose Nan Foti Belenchia of Hattiesburg, MS, (formerly of Shelby, MS); son, Michael Belenchia, (Elizabeth “Bib”) of Cleveland, MS; Daughters, Theresa “Tessie” Smith (Patrick) of Jackson, MS and Marcia Line (Lance) of Hattiesburg; sister, Elizabeth Pongetti; brother, Gene Belenchia; and grandchildren, Megan Belenchia, Hayes Line and Haley Line.
Pall bearers will be his nephews Paul Belenchia, Jr., Mark Belenchia, Russell Belenchia, Glen Radicioni, Jimmy Pongetti, Greg Mangialardi, and Andrew Mangialardi. Honorary Pall Bearers will be his nephews Thomas Belenchia, Anthony Belenchia, Johnny Belenchia, Jerry Radicioni, Gary Pongetti, and Ronnie Pongetti.

Mr. Fred Herard, died, Thursday, July 15, 2010 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford, MS. He had been a resident of the Mississippi Veteran’s Home since October, 2009. Graveside services will be held at the Leland-Stonville Cemetery on Old Leland Road between Leland and Greenville on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at 4:00 in the evening.
Mr. Herard was born June 18, 1927, in Webster County, Mississippi to Joseph Celeste Herard and Callie Modena Orr Herard. He moved to Darlove, MS as a child and was educated at Arcola School. He was affiliated with the Baptist religion. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a machinist aboard the William Nott Ship stationed in the Philippines. He also graduated from the United States Maritime Service Training Station in Sheepshead Bay, New York. He was retired from Libbey Glass, Inc. in Shreveport, LA where he worked as a machinist. He loved his animals and had a caring heart for all people.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Purvie Lee Lisenby of Texas, James Earl Lisenby of Modesto, CA, Herbert Lisenby of Springfield, OR, and Neville Herard of Oregon; sisters, Carrie Lou Lisenby McCaskill of Cottage Grove, OR, and Vassie Lisenby Gentry of Greenville, MS.
Survivors include, sister-in-law, Bea Lisenby of Springfield, OR, seven nieces, four nephews all of California and Oregon. He also leaves his caregiver, Gene and Susan Sims McCreary of Cleveland, MS

Jenelle Little Norwood, 81, of Drew, died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Walter B. Crook Nursing Facility in Ruleville.
Visitation will be held from 1-2p.m. and a memorial service will immediately follow at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 17 at Drew United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Norwood was born on January 10, 1929 in Quitman County to Dewitt Little and Bernice Jones Little. She was married to the late Ralph Oliver Norwood.
She received double Bachelor’s degrees in English and Bible Studies from Blue Mountain College. After graduation, she returned to the Delta and taught elementary school in Inverness and Drew, and she taught at North Sunflower Academy from 1969 until her retirement in 1994. She also received her Master’s degree in Elementary Supervision from Delta State University while teaching.
Mrs. Norwood was an active member of the Drew community, Drew Garden Club, and Drew Culture Club. She attended Drew United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Oliver Norwood; daughter Leslie “Doll” Norwood; son Stan Norwood; and sisters, Emory Jean Coleman and Jack Marie Hastings.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana Claire Norwood of Jackson; and her grandson, Jarrett Free of Drew.
As a teacher, she touched and formed many young lives in a very positive way, and will be remembered for her strength, wisdom, grace, and sense of humor.

She was born in Shelby, Mississippi, on August 4, 1967, to Emma Garcia and Reyes Ruiz, Jr. She was employed as a Cashier for Publix Grocery Store and was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Shelby.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Nava of Lake Worth, Florida, her parents, Reyes and Emma Garcia Ruiz, Jr. of Clarksdale, her children, Jose Nava, Jr., Ricardo Reyes Nava and Tiffany Marie Nava all of Lake Worth, Florida. She is also survived by two sisters, Christean Emma Lopez and husband, Rafael, and Rosalinda Lopez and husband, Jose, all of Clarksdale, three brothers, Ophelio Ruiz of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Reyes Ruiz, III and wife, Dorie, of Lake Worth, Florida, and Martin Ruiz of Clarksdale.
Visitation will be held Sunday, July 11, 2010, at National Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Services will be Monday, July 12, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Vollor officiating.

Columbus, MS—Tommie Ellington Jenkins, age 102, of Columbus, MS formerly of Ellisville, MS and Kosciusko, MS died Friday, July 9, 2010 at Trinity Healthcare Center in Columbus, MS.
Ms. Tommie was born November 8, 1907 in Thomastown, MS to the late James Thomas Young Ellington and Sarah Evelina Blailock Ellington. She married Frank W. Jenkins July 18, 1925 in Thomastown, MS. She spent most of her life on the Jenkins Farm near McAdams, MS. After the death of her husband, she moved to Ellisville, MS where she spent seventeen years with her daughter and her family. Following the death of her daughter, she moved to Columbus, MS where she lived with her son and his family before moving to Trinity Healthcare in the late 1990’s where she spent the remainder of her life enjoying her many new friends and activities of that facility. She was a member of Shiloh Methodist Protestant Church in Kosciusko and attended West Ellisville Baptist Church and Beeresheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Columbus.
A visitation will be held Sunday, July 11 at Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Columbus from 4PM until 6PM at which time a Celebration Service will be held. Visitation will also be held in Kosciusko Monday, July 12th at Crestview Congregational Methodist Church in Kosciusko, MS from 9 AM until service time at 11 AM. Rev. Jerry Meggs, Rev. Terry Maynard & Rev. Ron McDougald will officiate. Interment will follow at the Jenkins Cemetery in Attala County.
Ms Tommie was preceded in death by her husband, her daughter Frances Lacey Jenkins Temple, her son James David Jenkins, grandson Scott William Temple and great-grandson Jonathan Browning.
She is survived by her daughter, Nina Jenkins Carson (Joe) of Winona, MS; son, Howard Jenkins (Linda) of Columbus, MS, son-in-law, Jimmy Temple of Ellisville, MS; daughter-in-law, Jean Jenkins of Greenville, MS. Mr. Steed was born on September 3, 1921 to Monroe L. Steed and Molly V. Reynolds in Sunflower County. He was married to Mary Agnes Floyd for 64 years. Mr. Steed was a member of the VFW, American Legion, he loved going to his cabin on the lake.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary A. Steed; brothers, Edward G. Steed, Carlee Steed, Bernice Steed, James Steed , Raymond Steed, Bobby Steed; and sisters, Merle Dreher and Lillian Bingham.

Robert Fleming was born on June 16, 1962 to Meigs Frost Fleming and Georgia Beth Fritchie in New Orleans, LA. He married Joy Elizabeth Soeller on August 19, 1989 in Slidell, LA. They were happily married for 21 years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Meigs Frost Fleming.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Soeller Fleming of Cleveland, MS; daughter, Megan Elizabeth Fleming of Cleveland, MS; son, Miles Frost Fleming of Cleveland, MS; mother, Beth Fritchie Fleming Dendinger of Slidell, LA; step-father, Albert Dendinger of Slidell, LA; and step-mother, Patricia Fleming of Lafitte, LA.
Though Robert was born and raised in Slidell, Louisiana, he and his family have made Cleveland their home for 21 years. He loved reading, playing pool, was a skilled chef, and loved playing with his dogs, and spending time with his children. Teaching was his life and always got a joy from instructing his students.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Elwin Williams, Sr. and Mertyl Brown Williams, and one grandchild.

Ladonna was raised in Memphis, TN where she attended Balmoral Elementary School, Kirby High School and was a graduate of Gateway Christian Academy. Mr. Woodward was born on August 8, 1959 to Oren Bruce Woodward and Dorothy Jeanette Beach. He married Rhonda Lynn Kemp on February 14, 1987 in Cleveland, MS. He was an avid Ole Miss fan, loved to fish, playing golf and loved spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his mother Jean Woodward.
He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Woodward of Cleveland; son, Josh (Jeannie) Goss of Cleveland; daughter, Shannon Woodward of Cleveland; Father, Oren B. Roy Edward Green, 58, died Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Clarksdale Nursing Center in Clarksdale. Mr. Green was born July 14, 1951 at Clear Creek, MS to Juanita Hendon and Edward Ray Green. He was a self-employed carpenter and attended Brazil Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby Gene Green and Linnie Ray Green. He is survived by his three children, Patricia Castill, Billy Ray Green and Monica Lynn Green all of Mississippi. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Hardin of Lyon, MS and two brothers, Tommy Green of Cleveland, MS and Doyle Wayne Green of Clarksdale, along with five grandchildren and five nieces and three nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Willie Biggers and Benny Bloodworth.

Marine McKnight Cole, 92, of McComb and formerly of Cleveland, MS, died June 4, 2010 at Camellia Estates in McComb. She was born November 25, 1917 in Cleveland. She was the daughter of Joseph Abner and Ruby Dean McKnight. She was retired from Delta State University after 32 years as Administrative Assistant to the Business Manager. She was a 1935 graduate of Cleveland High School and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Cleveland. She was a member of the Cleveland Garden Club, Cleveland Woman’s Club, Community Bible Study of Greenville, MS and DSU Alumni Association. In 1990 and 2001, Mrs. Cole was the recipient of the DSU Alumni Association Service Award and the Robert L. Elliott DSU, H.L. Nowell Real Hero Award.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Wilson Cole and a brother, James McKnight.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie and Mike Wimberly of Summit, MS; two grandchildren, Michael Wimberly and wife, Jennifer of Natchez, MS and Ellen Wimberly Carr and husband, Ty, of Madison, MS; four great-grandchildren, Tanner and Tripp Wimberly of Natchez and Emma and Anna Carr of Madison.

While there, she became a graduate of Shelby High School Class of 1949. In 1952, she moved to Jackson to work for Guy Bailey Insurance for 15 years. She was a beauty advisor for Merle Norman for 4 years, worked for the State Department of Education for 7 years, was a member of Order of the Eastern star, and was a member of the Optimist Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Vivian Threet.

Mary Switzer Thomas, 91, died Monday, May 31, 2010, at her daughter's home in Vicksburg, MS. Mary Thomas was born April 5, 1919, in Inverness, MS to Mary Ann Hampton and Ernest Switzer. She graduated from Inverness High School and Delta State and played basketball both in high school and college. She was a retired school teacher and was an active member of Friars Point Methodist Church.

He was born on June 11, 1958 to William Harrison and Mary (Gladwell) Byrd, Sr. in Benoit, MS. Bill was a former farmer and currently a construction worker in the Vicksburg area. He was of the Baptist faith. Bill's passion was hunting and fishing.

J. D. Winters, 80 and formerly of Lula, MS, died the morning of May 20th at the State Veterans Home in Oxford, MS.
He was born in 1929 in Oxford, MS to William P. and Dollie Sims Winters. Mr. Winters worked as a merchant in the grocery business and was a member of the Lula Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion, F & A M Lodge, Grand York Rite, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Shriner, and Tennessee and Mississippi Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Emma Jean Winters. His survivors include his brothers, G. W. Winters, Billy Winters and William Pink Winters all of Greenville, MS and Melton Edward Winters of Germany.

After his passing, she later married her second husband Ralph Swackhamer on July 16, 1976 in Cleveland. Mrs. Swackhamer loved sewing and singing in the First Baptist Church Choir.
She is preceded in death by her parents; William H. Morgan and Mary Reese White; her first husband; Burlon Barbour, and her second husband; Ralph Swackhamer, grandson; Terry Bennett, three brothers, and one sister.

He was a talented student of the Mississippi Blues and played the guitar in clubs in the Delta and surrounding areas in the 1950s and 1960s. He shared his love of music with his children. He was an avid historian who shared stories about Mississippi Blues history, his research on Parchman Prison, and his extensive knowledge of his family’s history. Van George Meek, Jr., 75, died Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford after a lengthy illness. He was a resident of the Veteran Affairs Home in Oxford, but lived most of his life in Clarksdale. Van was born in Postelle, Arkansas to Margaret Kate McNeely and Van George Meek, Sr. on July 3, 1934.
He graduated from Jonestown High School and attended Delta State. He was a retired farmer and served his country in the U. S. Army. Van had a love for music. He was awarded the "Outstanding Young Farmer of Year" award by the Clarksdale Jaycees in 1968. He was also a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alene Furini Meek. His survivors include sons Van Meek, III of Lyon, MS and Christopher Glenn Meek and wife, Leslie, of Clarksdale and one daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Meek of Clarksdale. He is also survived by one sister, Beverly Meek Hatchett of Clarksdale and grandchildren Jennifer and Craig Stewart, also of Clarksdale.
Visitation for Mr. Meek will be held Saturday, May 15, 2010, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at National Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 12:00 noon on Saturday at Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Gregory Tyson Bell, age 28, of Cleveland, died on Tuesday May 11, 2010 at the home of a friend. He was born on November 10, 1981 to Harry Tyson Bell, Jr. and Marcia (Grimes) Bell in Vicenza Italy. Greg grew up in the Skene, Cleveland, and Batesville areas. He graduated from South Panola High School and attended North West Mississippi Community College and was a current student at Delta State University. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Iraq war. Greg was an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and a fish. He was also a very talented artist. Greg was loving son, brother and father who loved his family greatly.
Visitation will be held Thursday May 13, 2010 from 6:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM at Cleveland Funeral Home in Cleveland. Funeral services will be held Friday May 14, 2010 2:00 PM at the Cleveland Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the North Cleveland Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Sistrunk will officiate the services.
Greg was preceded in death by his brother Shawn Curtis Bell and paternal Grandfather Harry Tyson Bell, Sr.

Aileen Davis Hopkins, 96, died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the Clarksdale Nursing Center in Clarksdale. She was born in 1913 in Merigold, MS to Mary Avant Davis and Fred Davis. Mrs. Hopkins was a Saleslady for Powers Department Store for thirty years.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Albert P. Terry and John Hopkins. She is survived by a step-daughter, Jewell Frank of Forrest, MS.
Other family survivors include Mrs. C. C. Phelps and family of Clarksdale and a great niece, Cathy Posey of Harrah, OK.

Mrs. Davis was born on May 15, 1924 to John Wesley Woods and Ola Fullgam in Drew, MS. She married James H. Davis on February 1, 1946. They were married for 62 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; John Wesley Woods and Ola Fullgam and her husband; James H. Davis, four sisters, and two brothers.
She is survived by two daughters; Sherry (Donald) Oakes, and Camille (Bill) Stembridge, and their son; Hank (Debbie) Davis, 6 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Pauline Ferri Allen passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, at Bolivar Medical Center. Mrs. Allen was born in Boyle on August 19, 1929, to Ben Ferri and Frances Favi Ferri. She was a member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church in Cleveland. Mrs. Pauline worked as an assembler at Baxter’s Heath Laboratory and was also a Homemaker.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard Allen; parents, Ben and Francis Favi Ferri; sister, Sarah Ferri Fonville; and brother, Robert Ferri.

Howard Dudley Caffey, age 78, of Rena Lara died Monday, May 3, 2010, at Northwest MS Regional Medical Center. He was born June 13, 1931 in Gore Springs, Mississippi to Anna Belle James and Clarence Caffey. Mr. Caffey served his country in the U. S. Navy on the U.S.S. Yellowstone in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. Howard enjoyed jug fishing and being with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Caffey, a sister, Kathleen Wheat, brother, James Robert Caffey and two sons, Michael David and Howard Keith Caffey. His survivors include three daughters, Linda Thornton and husband, Henry of Holiday Island, AR, Marianne Webb of Coahoma, MS and Beth Collums and husband, Ricky of Rena Lara, MS. He also leaves one sister, Ruby Windham of Little Rock, AR and two brothers, Rouse Caffey of Baton Rouge, LA and Jerry Caffey of Lambert, MS. Gary was a loving husband, brother, Father and Grandfather. As an Elvis fan, he enjoyed all music, loved dancing and life. He loved being around friends and traveling and he enjoyed cooking as a hobby.
Gary Steven Gammel, age 49, of Friars Point, MS died Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at Northwest MS Regional Medical Center as a result of a motor vehicle accident. Gary was born September 10, 1960 in Clarksdale to the late Lois Katherine Forrest and Woodrow Wallace Gammel. He graduated from Coahoma County High School and was a member of Rena Lara Baptist Church. He was employed by the Yazoo-Mississippi Delta Levee Board as a Yazoo Pass Supervisor for eighteen years. His survivors include his wife of seventeen years, Edith Ann Morris Gammel, daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Marie and Andrew Rhoden and one granddaughter, Anna Katherine Rhoden. He leaves one brother, Bedford Gammel and wife, Sandy Kay, of Clarksdale; three sisters, Maxine McGuire and husband, Jerry of Cordova, TN, Emily Gordon and husband, Larry, of Crenshaw, MS and Jeanette Lester of Clarksdale, two half brothers, Woodrow Gammel of Midwest City, OK and Charles Gammel of Victor, CA, a half-sister, Karen Gammel of Shawnee, OK, two brothers-in-law, Tim Morris and wife, Amy and Rocco Glynn Morris, Jr. and wife, Lawanda, all of Clarksdale, numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mr. Weed was born on October 17, 1926, to Jesse Clifton Weed and Alma Maybelle Mahon in Minter City, MS. Mr. Weed served in the Navy during WWII and later married Lora Bell Middleton on August 13, 1950, at Cane Lake, in Leflore County, MS.

George Wytch Kelly, 89, of Jackson

George Wytch Kelly died May 3, 2010 in Jackson. Graveside Service will be Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at 2:00 in New Cleveland Cemetery. Memorial service will be held later in the week at Trinity Presbyterian church in Jackson, MS. He was born in Cleveland, MS on November 28, 1920, and was the second child of George Kelly and Mary Lucille Davis. His sister was Clariece Kelly Jones (1918-1971).
George, or Sonny as he was called as a youth, was an active Boy Scout, and his troop visited the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933. He was Drum Major for the Cleveland High School band. Then, he became Drum Major for the Famous Maroon Band at Mississippi State College in 1940-41.
In 1942 George joined the Army and became a paratrooper. On furlough, he came to Jackson in March 1943 to marry Elaine Smith at the First Presbyterian Church. He and Elaine, from Sumner, MS, had first met while taking courses at Delta State Teachers College.
George studied engineering at the University of Pittsburgh with the short-lived Army Specialized Training Program. Afterwards, he instructed paratroopers at Fort Benning, GA, and was sent to the Pacific Theatre with the 11th Airborne in December 1944. He landed at Hollandia, New Guinea, then moved up the Philippines, and was stationed at Okinawa when Japan signed the peace treaty. George and the 11th landed at Atsugi Air Base with General MacArthur a few days later.
George, now a 1st Sgt., came home from Japan in early Feburary 1946. He and Elaine’s only child, Steve, was born in November of that year. Mississippi Power & Light (MP&L) employed George in Jackson, and then transferred him to Marketing in Greenville. He was active with the Methodist Church, received his pilot’s license, and became a serious photography hobbyist while there. The company then moved him to Grenada for a couple of years.
In 1952 Mississippi Valley Gas was split out of MP&L and the family moved with the new company to Clarksdale. While in Clarksdale, George designed and contracted the family home. He was active with the Exchange Club, March of Dimes, Shriners, Mississippi State Alumni, Music Club, and coaching Peewee League football. He also completed engineering correspondence courses.
Valley Gas transferred George to Jackson in 1959, where he lived for the rest of his life. He became accomplished with the following hobbies: sailplane flying, skeet shooting, organ, calligraphy, and painting. He also had an interest in coin collecting, woodworking, guitar, genealogy, and astronomy. In 1984 he retired from Valley Gas (now Atmos).
George was a life-long Christian. He was an inspirational husband, father, and grandfather. George loved music, including blues, bluegrass, Broadway, circus, classical, country, Dixieland jazz, folk, hymns, march, opera, rock ‘n roll, and swing.
George was preceded in death by Elaine in 2009, his wife of 65 years. He is survived by his son Steve (Martha), and grandsons Matt and Joe.
Paul L. Sizemore, 80, of Pace

Paul L. Sizemore, 80, of Pace died May 2, 2010 at his home in Cleveland.
Mr. Sizemore was born on June 16, 1929 to Jim and Edna Sizemore on the Bogue in Pace, MS. He attended school in Pace a few years and then moved to Drew, MS. In 1947, he joined the Navy and served on Guam. When the Drew National Guard was called to active duty in 1950 for the Korean Conflict, he went with them. He married Margie Nell Moses in 1951. His son, Dennis was born in 1953. After his tour in France, he attended Delta State and graduated in 1955 with a major in Business Education. He
taught in Rolling Fork, MS. Paul received his MS in Education from Ole Miss in 1959. The big move to the West was in 1960. He taught in Cheyenne, Wyoming. He taught high school Business, 6th grade in Cheyenne, Wyoming and was in the State Department of Education. He was Assistant Principal of the High School in New Mexico. His love of teaching was with his sixth graders in Cheyenne. He retired in 1985. He loved the outdoors and hunting and fishing all over Wyoming. He was a Mason and a Shriner. He came home to Mississippi in 1999.
Survivors include his son, Dennis Sizemore; his daughter-in-law, Trent Sizemore; and his grandson, Paul Michael Sizemore, all of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hazel A. Vanlandingham, 90, of Hamilton, Mississippi, formerly of Rosedale, died Wednesday, April 28, 2010. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 30, 2010 at Ray Funeral Home with Rev. Higdon Herrington officiating. Burial will follow in Doty Springs Cemetery in Kosciusko, Mississippi with Rev. Terry Edwards officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 29, 2010 at Ray Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vanlandingham was born on March 12, 1920 in Kosciusko, MS to George Porter Hodge and Mary Lillian Ray Hodge. She married Charlie Jackson Vanlandingham. She was employed at Baxter Laboratories until her retirement.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Jackson Vanlandingham; and two grandchildren, Greg Savage and Chase Vanlandingham; and one great grandchild, Adam West Savage.
Survivors include her son, Lenwood C. Vanlandingham of Hamilton; a daughter, Maxine V. Garrett of Hamilton; a brother, George Lamar Hodge of Inverness; and six sisters, Alice Williams of Wichita Falls, Texas, Marie Pilcher and Dorothy Nell Hollis, both of Meridian, Neva Francis Dunn of Chatworth, Georgia, and Flora Love Daigle and Barbara Ann Weatheby, both of Moss Point, MS; 3 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Hackney was born April 30, 1929 in Springfield, TN, to B.W. and Stella Pierce Hackney. He married Marjorie Goodyear Hackney in August 1950. They were married for 59 years. He served his country faithfully in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He graduated from University of Tennessee Pharmacy School in 1956 and served as a registered pharmacist for 54 years. They moved to Cleveland in 1962, and he was employed by Simmons Drugs, Economy Drugs and Paul’s Discount before retiring. After retirement, he worked at Gilbow’s Drug Store and Buckley’s Pharmacy. He was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by parents, B.W. and Stella Pierce Hackney; and brother, Wallace Ray Hackney.
Survivors include his wife, Majorie Goodyear Hackney of Cleveland, MS; daughter, Beth Heinz (Charlie) of Shelby, MS; Sons, Michael Hackney (Elizabeth) of Cleveland, MS and William Hackney (Julia) of Cypress, TX; brother, Bobby B. Mr. Smith was born September 27, 1929 to Bob and Veda Smith in Runnels County, Tx and was reared in Texas as well. He married Mrs. Peggy Ray on February 2, 1952. They were married for 57 years. He served in the United States Army in Germany. He was an electrical engineer and traveled extensively with his job and made friends throughout the world. He was loved dearly by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a deacon and a mason.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Veda Smith; daughter, Pam Kelley; and a grand-daughter, Kennedy Smith.
He is survived by a wife, Peggy Ray Smith of Cleveland, MS; daughter, Cindy Weaver (Tony) of Cascilla, MS; son, Joe Smith (Alice) of Boyle, Ms; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
