Statesmen Basketball win Big in Road Contest
The Delta State men’s basketball picked up a much need region victory Thursday on the road, 94-77 over West Georgia.
Marqueyes Brown scored a team-high 20 points, shooting 9-of-11 from the floor.
The Statesmen will have a 10-day layoff before their next contest, a road game at West Florida which will be the first of a two-game road trip beginning Dec. 13.
Lady Statesmen Still Perfect
The Delta State Lady Statesmen remain perfect on the young season, after defeating West Georgia 62-43.
Delta State posted three players in double figures led by Veronica Walker’s 15 points.
The Lady Statesmen return to action Saturday when they host Tougaloo College. Tipoff is set for 1 at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

DSU Sits at No. 4 in Latest Poll
The Delta State Lady Statesmen remains no. 4 in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II women’s basketball poll released Tuesday.
After two wins already this week, Delta State has started 5-0 and extended their home winning streak to 39 games dating back to 2007.
Delta State was the only Gulf South Conference member school in Top 25 poll. West rival Arkansas Tech missed out on No. 25 with 57 votes.
The Lady Statesmen battle West Georgia tonight at 5:30.

Totten Resigns at Miss. Valley
Mississippi Valley State football coach Willie Totten resigned Tuesday according to a press release. However he will remain at the school with different duties.
The decision is effective immediately and comes after the Delta Devils finished last in the Southwestern Athletic Conference at 3-8.
In eight seasons he was 31-57 with the historically black school.
He finished his playing career with a 28-11-1 record before playing in the Canadian Football League.
Delta State gets a win over UNA
In college basketball, Delta State University rallied in the final minutes in a 75-70 win over North Alabama Monday night.
Four players scored in double-figures for the Statesmen led by Rodrick Ollie and Dmitry Pirshin with 14 and 13 points respectively.
Marqueys Brown racked up a double- double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. The Statesmen return to action Thursday when they travel to West Georgia.
Lady Statesmen at 5-0, Tame UNA Lions
The Delta State Lady Statesmen basketball team remains undefeated at 5-0 after a 68-48 win over North Alabama Monday night.
Shameka Russell shot a career high 18points while Veronica Walker recorded a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Delta State has won 39 straight games at home since 2007. The Lady Statesmen return to action Thursday on the road at West Georgia.
Dixon Nabs Conerly Trophy
Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon has won the Conerly Trophy, given to the state's top college football player.
Dixon beat out nine other nominees from the state's 10 colleges with football teams Monday during a ceremony at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
The outgoing senior capped off a record-breaking career by surpassing the Bulldogs' single-season rushing mark in a 41-27 win over Mississippi in the Egg Bowl.
