Migratory Bird Habitat Initiative

07/27/2010

A plan to attempt to protect migrating wildlife from the gulf oil spill is in talks.

Executive Director from the Mississippi Fish and Wildlife Foundation James Cummins, reportedly offered this plan called the Migratory Bird Habitat Initiative (MBHI), to a Greenville Club.

This plan (MBHI) is centered on the idea of using any areas of the Delta to create a habitat for migrating birds; certain areas of the Delta including ponds (working or abandoned), moist soil areas and natural areas could be used in this effort.

According to the (MBHI), over $2 million in federal assistance is reportedly available for landowners in eligible counties who are willing to help with this project.

The eligible counties in our area are: Bolivar, Coahoma, Leflore, Sunflower and Washington.
