Dan + Shay just released a brand new single to radio this week called "Tequila." Duo member Dan Smyers co-wrote the song, which he tells us ended up going in a completely different direction than what he and his co-writers first thought of. ["We were in the writing room and our buddy, Jordan Reynolds, who we write a lot of songs with had brought up that title, that idea and was like, 'What about a song called "Tequila"?' At first we were all like, 'That would be cool.' It's symbolic of partying and having a good time and us being on stage and late nights and positivity, but we were like, 'Let's just try for a second to spin it and go the other way.' You know, your senses like smell and taste and things like that are triggers for nostalgia, and that's one thing specifically whether it's cookies your mom was making around the holidays or something, like that smell can take you right back to a certain place and a song can do that as well, so we sort of told that story of tequila — 'when I taste tequila I'm right back there' — and you're seeing that person, that ex."] SOUNDCUE (:48 OC: . . . person, that ex.)
"Tequila" is the debut single from Dan + Shay's third album, which will tentatively be released later this year.
The guys will hit the road with Rascal Flatts on the Back To Us tour this summer.
