Kacey Musgraves loves to celebrate the spirit of the Christmas season as much as anyone, however when it came to creating her first holiday project, A Very Kacey Christmas, she wanted to kick things off with a less than festive song. She tells us: ["Well one thing I knew before I even really got started is that I really wanted to write a sad Christmas song. That was on my list. I was like, 'I have to write a sad Christmas song,' and I wrote one with Shane McAnally and Brandy Clark, and I actually cried big time when we wrote it. It's called 'Christmas Makes Me Cry', and just as a writer I just thought it was important to include some different sentiments you don't usually hear in Christmas music. It's all fun and jolly and happy, but it's not always like that for people, especially like the day after Christmas can be one of the saddest, just a bizarre day. You know, the paper's all over the floor, the family's going back home and I don't know, it's just kind of sad."] SOUNDCUE (:42 OC: . . . kind of sad.)
A Very Kacey Christmas also includes covers of eight holiday classics, as well as guests Willie Nelson, Leon Bridges and The Quebe Sisters.
Kacey is celebrating the release of A Very Kacey Christmas with a series of upcoming national television performances beginning today (Wednesday, November 30th) on ABC's Good Morning America. On Thursday (December 1st), she'll drop by NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
Earlier this week, she performed on ABC's CMA Country Christmas special.
