Brantley Gilbert and Lindsay Ell are sitting at the top of the charts this week with their duet, "What Happens In A Small Town." It's the lead single from Brantley's new album, Fire & Brimstone, which was released in October.
He said, “I want to give the fans a lot of credit for the life of this song. From the beginning, they shared it, streamed it and called up radio to hear it. I’ve been there — drivin’ around home seeing all the people and places that I used to avoid to keep from thinkin’ about the one that got away. I think we all have that person, those people, those places… and this song.”
Lindsay said, “I have dreamed of having my first No. 1 since I was a little girl. It honestly feels surreal, and to be able to celebrate it during CMA Awards week in Nashville makes it even more special . . . From the minute I heard ‘What Happens in a Small Town’ for the first time I knew it was a hit that would connect with people, and now it’s changing my life as an artist. I’m beyond grateful.”
"What Happens In A Small Town" is also nominated for Musical Event of the Year at Wednesday’s (Nov. 16th) CMA Awards. It’s meaningful for Brantley because it’s his first CMA nomination in seven years, but even more so for Lindsay cause it's her first. Brantley tells us: [“It’s our first nomination since 2012 but it’s Lindsay’s first. And partnering with her on this song has been absolutely amazing. Seeing how hard she works and right now is hard times for women in our genre, frankly. And I love to see awesome things happening for any female in our genre, but especially Lindsay being as close as I’ve been able to be with her and seeing how hard she grinds just makes it that much more special. I think I’m probably more excited for her, well, definitely, than I am for me.”] SOUNDCUE (:27 OC: . . . am for me.)
The CMA Awards airs live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on ABC beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
