Ingrid Andress was having success as a songwriter, collaborating with the likes of Alicia Keys and Sam Hunt and co-writing hits for pop stars like Charli XCX when she suddenly shifted her focus to becoming an artist herself. She tells us exclusively that the lightbulb clicked on when she started feeling selfish about the songs she was writing. ["Once I started finding my voice in songwriting I decided that I was tired of other artists telling my story and so that was kind of my little nudge into the artist world when I realized like, 'Oh, it's probably time if you don't want other people singing your songs,' cause that's the goal as a songwriter is to like want other people to cut your songs and I was like, 'I don't want anybody to have these,' so (laughs) that was my moment of, 'Okay, I think you should probably be an artist now, Ingrid.'"] SOUNDCUE (:26 OC: . . . artist now, Ingrid.)

That seems to have worked out for Ingrid, who sits just outside the Top 20 on the charts with "More Hearts Than Mine."

She plays the House of Blues in San Diego, CA tomorrow night (Tuesday, Nov. 19th).
