Kenny Chesney was named Top Country Tour at the Billboard Music Awards on Wednesay (May 1st). He played 19 stadiums across 41 concert dates on his 2018 Trip Around the Sun Tour.
Kenny wasn't in attendance but he said, “Hearing that the Billboard Music Awards recognized us with this award . . . well, thank you so much from me, the guys in the band, the crew, the drivers and everyone else who makes it happen in this crazy world. We thank you, but especially we thank No Shoes Nation for bringing it every summer. They’re our secret weapon, so this award is for them.”
Kenny is currently in the midst of his Songs for the Saints 2019 arena tour, playing in towns he hasn't been able to get to in years due to his larger stadium shows. Regardless of the venue, he feeds off over-the-top-energy of the crowd, which Kenny tells us is almost explosive when fans have been waiting for him to visit their town. “The fans out there, they hear on the radio they were coming to town, in some cases six months ahead so they’ve been anticipating that moment, and we’ve been anticipating that moment, and all of a sudden there we are. We get to connect, and some nights it’s very special, and some nights it’s out of this world, and some nights it feels like an out-of-body experience that you’re so caught up in that moment and those are the nights that you don’t ever want to end.”
Kenny's Songs for the Saints Tour continues through May 25th at the Bayou Country Superfest. The show live from Louisiana State University’s Tiger Stadium will mark his only stadium date in 2019.
